Women’s Rights

!

Islam suppresses women and strips away their rights.

Islamic Response:

Islam elevated women's status in the 7th century— ending female infanticide and granting inheritance, property, education, and marriage consent rights long before other civilizations.

  • Qur'ān 4:7 – daughters receive a share of inheritance.
  • Qur'ān 33:35 – spiritual equality of men & women.
  • Ḥadith: "The best of you are those best to their wives."

Biblical / Talmudic comparison:

  1. New Testament: 1 Timothy 2:12 forbids women to teach or hold authority; 1 Corinthians 14:34 commands them to remain silent in church.
  2. Old Testament: Exodus 21:7 allows a father to sell his daughter; Numbers 30 states a woman's vows are nullified if overruled by her father or husband.
  3. Talmud: The daily blessing «She-lo 'asani ishah» (Berakhot 60b) thanks God for not making the speaker a woman; Kiddushin 80b places women in the same legal class as slaves and minors.

Which scripture truly oppresses women—the one that first granted them legal personhood, or the one that thanks God for "not making me a woman"?
